Maison Saint-Servan, a renovated modern designed home is located in Saint-Malo walled city, renowned for its fascinating seafaring history of privateering and pirates. Walking distance to the historic and shopping quarter, to the ocean and beaches, Maison Saint-Servan is steps to one of the most beautiful open-air market.
Maison Saint-Servan offers two spacious bedrooms with fully equipped en-suite bathrooms (with a shower) and all modern amenities. Its relaxing living room paying tribute to the oceanside environment will be appreciated after long days of visits. It has a free internet connection.
You will enjoy daily home-made breakfasts including freshly baked baguettes, croissants or brioches, eggs, ham and cheese, Brittany butter, honey and jams. Corinne will run a cooking class in Maison de Saint-Servan followed by gourmet food & wine pairing tasting dinners.
Le Manoir des Tilleuls in Bayeux, Normandy
This elegant guesthouse is a 18th-century entirely renovated manor located in the historic quarter, steps to the cathedral, to the tapestry museum and to the lime trees planted square. Le Manoir des Tilleuls offers 5 beautifully decorated rooms, each with its private en-suite bathrooms. Rooms are spacious and furnished with stylish antiques while providing all modern comfort.
Although the house is in town, it overlooks a beautifully designed tree shaded garden where you will appreciate to rest after a long day of visits.
Brittany & Normandy Cuisine & Cooking Class
Brittany and Normandy regions, bordered by the Channel sea and the Atlantic Ocean, offer a large variety of fish and seafood but also varieties of fruits and vegetables produced in the countryside. Farms spread over the whole territory raising cows for dairy produce. Rural areas welcome numerous artisans who keep the traditions precious and alive. You will find cidreries, wheat mills, cheese farms and you will also meet local producers in Saint-Malo food market.
The Breton and the Norman cuisines are made with tasteful produce, fish and seafood, meat (especially lamb and pork), buckwheat crepes filled with sautéed vegetables or ham and cheese or salmon and whipped cream… but not only. You will be spoiled with its delicacies such as the plums milky cake “far breton”, buttered cake “quatre-quarts” and of course the “kouign amann”, a crusty cake which is made with bread dough containing layers of butter and sugar folded in, similar in fashion to puff pastry.
Experience the market cooking class with Corinne
On Tuesday morning, you will experience the food market tour and shopping in in Saint-Malo which is as large as beautiful. You will meet and discuss with the merchants offering organic vegetables and fruits, fish and seafood of all kind, etc. After the market tour, you will visit Cancale nearby village and enjoy the oysters & white wine aperitif right at the port, before having lunch in a local restaurant (crêperie or similar at your convenience). Back to Saint-Malo late afternoon, it will be time to cook! Maison de Saint-Servan with its open-kitchen is perfect for that. You will tight your apron and cook with Corinne a typical Breton 4-course dinner that you will enjoy with fine wines afterwards.
Brittany and Normandy Heritage itinerary includes ten important cultural sites to explore, and to indulge in the history. The main ones are:
Saint-Malo is a well preserved historic city in Brittany. With the discovery of the Americas and the development of trade with the Indies, Saint-Malo grew considerably. Numerous shipowners and illustrious characters (Maupertuis in science, Chateaubriand in literature and politics) made the city popular from the 17th century, Jacques Cartier discovered Canada, Duguay-Trouin and Surcouf privateers harassed merchant and military navies… Saint-Malo boasts a superb and well-preserved architectural heritage that you will discover along a guided walking tour.
Dinan medieval Breton city of Art and History overlooking the Rance river. Protected by 3 kilometers of ramparts overlooking the Rance valley, Dinan invites you to stroll across its narrow cobbled streets bordered with magnificent colorful half-timbered houses and indulge you in the heart of Breton history. You will follow in the footsteps of Bertrand Duguesclin, the legendary Breton knight and military commander on the French side during the Hundred Years’ War.
D-Day sites stretch from Utah Beach to Sword Beach west to east. The fifty-four miles of coast are littered with WWII museums, monuments, cemeteries and battle remains left in tribute to the courage of British, Canadian and American armies that successfully carried out the largest military operation in history: D-Day. On these serene beaches, at the crack dawn on June 6, 1944, the Allies finally gained a foothold in France. From this moment, Nazi Europe was destined to crumble. You will visit Arromanches, Omaha Beach and the WWII Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, the resting place for nearly 10,000 Americans who died on the nearby beaches.
Pays d’Auge with its stunning countryside villages which are popular for dairy and cider farms, and for brandy distilleries, without forgetting its authentic half-timbered villages.
Mont-Saint-Michel medieval Unesco site. A magical island topped by a gravity-defying medieval monastery, the Mont-Saint-Michel counts among France’s most stunning sights. For centuries one of Europe’s major pilgrimage destinations, this holy mount including its breathtaking bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At least a half-day is necessary to visit the Mont Saint-Michel and the abbey.
Honfleur is as historic as artistic. One of the major port at the 17th century, this little seaside town features remarkable architectural heritage still today with its inland harbor lined with slate-covered frontage houses, an impressing former salt storage building “Grenier à Sel”, narrow cobble-stone streets with antique and designer shops, art galleries, and very good restaurants. Honfleur is the birth place of Eugene Boudin, 19-year older than Monet, one of the most influencing impressionist master who was the first one to take his easel outside and paint the landscapes live.
Day 1 – Welcome to Paris / Transfer to Saint-Malo, Brittany
At 9:30am, meet Corinne in your hotel in Paris.
Private transfer by SUV car (or van) to Saint-Malo through Le Mans where you will enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant.
After 4pm, check-in at Maison Saint-Servan. Resting time.
Welcome aperitif and dinner in Maison Saint-Servan. Overnight.
Day 2 – Saint-Malo & Cancale
After breakfast, experience and enjoy the market tour and shopping with Corinne to meet the merchants and to choose the ingredients you will learn to cook afterwards.
Transfer to Cancale fishing port which is popular with its oyster farms. Oysters with white wine aperitif at the port offering a panoramic view on the bay and to the Mont-Saint-Michel further.
Gourmet lunch in Cancale. Afternoon short walk through the upper village or the customs officers’ path along the coast. Back to Maison Saint-Servan at 4pm.
3-hour cooking class followed by food & wine tasting dinner. Overnight.
Day 3 – Dinan & Saint-Malo full-day cultural tour
After breakfast, transfer to Dinan medieval Breton city overlooking the Rance river and enjoy the walking guided tour through the historic quarter.
Lunch in Dinan.
Afternoon guided walking tour of Saint-Malo historic quarter and time free at your leisure for shopping.
Food & wine pairing dinner in Maison Saint-Servan. Overnight.
Day 4 – Mont-Saint-Michel guided tour / Transfer to Normandy
Check-out after breakfast and transfer to the Mont Saint-Michel.
Guided walking tour to the site and abbey.
Lunch in Avranches gourmet restaurant and transfer to Bayeux then.
Check-in at Le Manoir des Tilleuls guest house. Resting time.
Dinner in a traditional restaurant in Bayeux. Overnight.
Day 5 – Bayeux and the Pays d’Auge gourmet & cultural tour
After breakfast, morning food tour throughout the picturesque Pays d’Auge villages.
Although you will discover outstanding scenery, you will meet genuine producers, visit their farms and enjoy the fruits of their labor, from Camembert cheese to organic ciders, and locally distilled calvados.
Back to Bayeux at the beginning of the afternoon for visiting the famous medieval Tapestry museum followed by a guided walking tour of the city with time free for shopping.
Food & wine pairing dinner in a gourmet restaurant. Overnight.
Day 6 – D-Day full-day excursion
After breakfast, full-day tour to D-Day sites departing from Bayeux.
You will visit Utah beach and its amazing museum, Sainte-Mère Eglise, La Pointe du Hoc and Colleville-sur-mer American cemetery.
Lunch in a crêperie in Sainte-Mère-Eglise. Dinner in a traditional restaurant in Bayeux.
Day 7 – Honfleur and transfer to Paris
After breakfast, transfer to Honfleur, a very preserved little town on the channel seaside, which is famous for its impressionist museum and art galleries. Lunch in Honfleur.
Transfer to Paris. End of the tour.
