Truffle Cooking & Lifestyle getaway Provence original tour is escorted by Sophie Charransol of Provence Rêverie as Corinne Preteur of Lifestyle Vacations France will guide the truffle market tour, cook lunch, dinners and run the cooking class in the luxury Villa Sévigné or Villa Adhémar which is private for you.
The tour is scheduled Thursday-Sunday. It combines the visits to Grignan, Richerenches, Gigondas and the quaint hilltop villages of the North of Provence. You will experience the market tour and shopping, the visits to a top-5 Côtes du Rhône winer and to an olive oil mill when the famous green nectar comes out.
Villa Sévigné or Villa Adhémar Accommodation
Indulge in the elegance and luxury design of Sévigné or Baume exceptional villas located in the North of Provence, right in the outskirts of Grignan historic hilltop village, one-hour distance from Valence TGV station. Both are perfect to relax and to enjoy the delightful Provence cuisine with truffles but not only.
Villa Sévigné 4730 sqft architect designed villa is your home for a group of 4 to 6 people. Villa Sévigné offers all modern comfort with 6 spacious bedrooms furnished with king-size beds; each with en-suite bathrooms with separated toilets. Bathrooms are equipped with a walk-in shower and heated towel rail. You will find a hair dryer, toiletry products, towels, bathrobe, slippers in each bathroom. The villa offers an indoor Spa, sports room and a 140 m2 living space with a fully-equipped kitchen opening onto a lounge to relax.
Adhémar is a traditional stylish villa which accommodates 2 to 4 people. It’s built on a 1200 ares park offering a panoramic view on the Provence countryside and the Mont Ventoux further. Entirely renovated with all modern comfort it offers 3 bedrooms with its en-suite bathrooms and toilets.
Daily breakfasts in Villa Sévigné or Villa Adhémar include eggs, ham, cheese, freshly baked baguette, croissants, brioches, butter, jam, honey, cereals, cow or almond milk, fresh fruits, crepes, home-made cakes, tea, coffee… everything to start the day on the best way!
Truffle Hunting, Market Cooking Class, Gourmet & Cultural Experiences
This noblest and most characteristic underground mushroom grows in symbiosis with a tree, usually a oak tree. Tuber Melanosporum black truffle is above all a sigh of pleasure and satisfaction – a sigh that says, “Finally, the Greatest Joy is here!”. Though Provence is not the only place they are found, more than 80% of France’s truffle production comes from the Enclave des Papes in the north of Provence.
Searching truffles provides a lots of fun! You will walk in the foot steps of the truffle hunter and the dog to see how he works in a total symbiosis with his owner. On Saturday morning, you will stroll across Richerenches tiny enchanting village to experience the largest truffle market in France (from mid-November to mid-March). The market attracts nearly 400 producers and more than 2000 passionate visitors about the famous “black diamond”. A part of the village is devoted to the professional market, closely watched by the police … for the simple reason that transactions are done “on the back of the truck” and only in cash. At more than 1200 € per kilogram depending on the season, offer and demand, the transactions reach considerable amounts. On the other side of the village, along main street, producers display truffle, fruits and vegetables producers and regional products. After a certain time walking through the village, you will enjoy a truffle aperitif at L’Escapade restaurant and bar, an institution in the village!
Saturday late in the afternoon, comes the time of the hands-on cooking class. You will join Corinne in the kitchen of Villa Sévigné or Villa Adhémar to learn how to prepare and cook a 4-course truffle gourmet dinner including starter, appetizer, main course and dessert. You will then enjoy the fruits of your labor accompanied by Côte du Rhône fine wines.
In addition to the truffle adventure, you will take the advantage of the winter season to visit an olive oil mill. Olives are always harvested after the fall when the fruits are ripe, immediately brought by the farmers to the mill to be pressed. You will see the oil process and enjoy the different kind of first cold pressed oils depending on the olive varieties and terroir.
Provence is one of France’s largest wine region. You will get the opportunity of your journey to visit one of the top-ranked Côtes-du-Rhône winery in Gigondas Grand Cru village. You will visit the cellar and enjoy a tasting.
You also visit Grignan and its chateau built on a rocky headland overlooking the village. Originally built in the 11th century by Adhemar de Monteil (one of the principal figures of the First Crusade and bishop of Puy-en-Velay from before 1087), the chateau was transformed during the Renaissance period into a prestigious “leisure residence”. It pays tribute today to Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marchioness of Sévigné and to her daughter Françoise-Marguerite who married François Adhémar, Count of Grignan. Dismantled at the Revolution, the chateau was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century in a pure Renaissance style.
Day 1 (Thursday) – Welcome to Provence
Evening private transfer by van from Valence TGV station to Grignan.
Check-in at the Villa. Welcome dinner.
Day 2 (Friday) – Truffle Hunting, Visits to the Olive oil mill & and to the Winery
Breakfast in the Villa.
10:30am: Transfer to the nearby truffle farm. Meet Audrey who will explain the growing process of black truffles.
Follow the truffle hunter and the dog in search of the famous black diamond. You will see how the dog works in a total symbiosis with the farmer.
Back to the farm around 12:30pm to enjoy a 6-course tapas lunch accompanied by a glass of wine.
Afternoon visit to an authentic olive oil mill nearby Vaison-La-Romaine (the opportunity to see a mill working when the olives are pressed to get the oil).
Visit to one of the top-10 Côtes du Rhône winery in Gigondas. Tastings follow each visit.
Back to the Villa end afternoon. Resting time in the Villa.
Aperitif and gourmet 4-course food & wine pairing truffle dinner in the Villa.
Day 3 (Saturday) – Truffle Market tour – Visit to the Chateau of Grignan – Cooking Class
After a copious breakfast, transfer to Richerenches around 10am.
You will stroll across the village and enjoy the truffle market. Lunch in Richerenches.
Afternoon visit to the remarkable Chateau of Grignan. The opportunity to learn more about Adhémar-de-Monteil family and Marquoness of Sévigny as well).
Back to Villa Sévigné or to Villa Adhémar to partake in the hands-on cooking class starting at 4pm for 3 hours. Aperitif and gourmet dinner follows.
Day 4 (Sunday) – Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux & La Garde Adhémar guided Tour
Breakfast in the Villa. Check-out (not later than 11am).
Morning visit to Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux hilltop village hosting a small truffle market.
Lunch in La Garde Adhémar followed by the village walking tour
Transfer to Valence TGV station (not later than 3:30pm).
End of the tour.
